It was another action packed weekend at the track, beginning on Wednesday night for the usual Kart racing at Brockville Speedway, and on to Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, Brockville Speedway on Saturday night, and then the highly anticipated inaugural appearance of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Cornwall Motor Speedway on Sunday night.
The Kart racing has always been fun, but even more so now that I have a Kart together for my nephew Brandon. In just his third week, he finished second in the Rookie 2 class. Winners this week include Braxton Dalessio in the Box Stock, Matthew McIntosh in Rookie 1, who remains undefeated in 2012 with nine straight feature wins. Madison Mulder won the Rookie 2 main event, Cole Frederick won the Jr. Sportsman 1 feature with Johnson Wilson taking the top honors in the Jr. Sportsman 2 class. Jesse Hudson took the win in Jr. Restricted competition, with Dylan Kirkland winning the Stock class. Racing Lawn tractors were also on hand with Nick Trotman taking the Modified win and Jason Dowdall winning the Super Modified class.
On Friday night I was back at Mohawk International Raceway for a full Friday night program including a 40 lap St. Lawrence Seaway Sportsman Series race, and a Mod Lite Series event, plus Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Bandits. Billy Dunn once again took home the win, and continues to be virtually unstoppable since teaming up with Laurence Ladouceur on Friday night. Ladouceur also has benefited from having Dunn in his back up car, and finished the night with a strong second place run over Tim O’Brien, Chris Raabe and Danny O’Brien. Dylan Evoy won the 40 lap Sportsman St. Lawrence Seaway race over Josh VanBrocklin, Chris Herbison, Brent Kelsey and Mike Arquiett. Paul Klager won the Mod Lite main event, PJ Peters won the Pro Stock feature, and Mathieu Aubin took top honors in the Bandit class.
It was off to Brockville Speedway on Saturday night for their full show plus the Mod Lites. Lee Gill returned to victory lane for the second time in three weeks over the O’Brien brothers, Pat, Tim and Danny respectively. Point leader Dale Planck rounded out the top five. It was a surprise winner in the Sportsman division as Jonathan Ferguson shocked the field with his first career win. Jessica Power finished second ahead of Steve Barber, Ryan Poole, and Jon Mills with his first career top five. Other winners include Paul Klager in the Mod Lites, Quincy Roberts in the Rookies and Derek Cryderman in Street Stocks.
The highly anticipated debut of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at Cornwall Motor Speedway took place on Sunday. Donny Schatz of Fargo, North Dakota took home the win over 20 time World of Outlaw champion Steve Kinser. Craig Dollansky, Sammy Swindell and Lucas Wolfe were the top five finishers. In the Modified division, Gage Morin debuted a brand new car, and emerged as the winner over Tim O’Brien, Joel Doiron, Chris Raabe and Shane Pecore.
This coming week I will be back at Mohawk International Raceway on Friday night, Brockville Speedway on Saturday and Cornwall Motor Speedway once again on Sunday. Brockville will be hosting a “Triple Double” event, with double laps, double prize money and double points for all weekly divisions. In past years, this race is pivotal in shaping the chase for the 2012 championships. On Sunday at Cornwall, the 358 Modifieds will be battling in round 2 of the Canadian National Series with a 100 lap $4000 to win main event.
