BROCKVILLE – The continuous trend of 2012 has been the hot and humid weather, and that continued this week as Brockville Ontario Speedway hosted the always-popular Patriot Sprint Tour, along with the 358 Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks and Rookies on Jim’s Performance Plus night.

A packed grandstand witnessed some great racing in all divisions, with two drivers earning their first career victories. They also witnessed another driver return to Brockville Speedway victory lane for the first time in nearly ten years.

The first feature to hit the track was the Street Stocks, as they battled for 15 laps. Darrick Eaton took the lead early, but it Derrick Cryderman that came out on top in his first race back at the BOS since destroying his car in a horrific accident on the front straightaway over a month ago. Kevin Fetterly finished with a strong second place finish with Guy Regimbald, Nick Gauvreau and Travis Andrews rounding out the top five.

The Patriot Sprint Tour was next to hit the track for their 25 lap A-main. Jamie Collard and Devin Caron led the field to the green flag, and after a slow start with a pair of cautions before they completed lap 1, the full distance went green to checkers with Collard getting the win over Caron, Jared Zimbardi, Scott Kreutter and Justin Barger who made it back into the top five after sliding off the track earlier in the race.

The 25 lap Sportsman feature had fans on their feet with an exciting battle throughout the race with fan favorite Tabatha Murphy taking the lead on lap 18 after a great battle for several laps with Doug O’Blenis. A caution one lap later produced an intense battle, with both drivers looking for their first BOS Sportsman feature wins, while veteran Sheldon Hoogwerf was looking to get his first of the season. Murphy held off a late race charge from Hoogwerf to get the win, with Ryan Arbuthnot, O’Blenis and reigning champion Chris Herbison rounding out the top five.

A huge wreck on lap one of the Modified feature had a major impact on the night for several key players in the battle for the 2012 championship. Point leader Dale Planck was unable to continue after the opening lap melee, as was 10 time BOS champion Danny O’Brien. The incident also involved Bobby Herrington, Luke Stewart, Pat O’Brien, and Jeff Ciglich. When the race resumed it was Matt Billings getting the lead early, but Lee Gill was making his presence known as he was quickly moving up from his eighth place starting position and was soon challenging Billings for the top spot. Gill made the winning move on lap 14 and cruised to his first Brockville Speedway feature win since returning to the BOS this season after nearly 10 years away from the Modified division.

The final race of the evening was the 4cylinder Rookie Division, and it was another first time winner as John Stanley took home the top honors after a more then his share of bad luck early in 2012.

The BOS is back in action on Saturday night, July 21st as Tackaberry Construction presents a full show of Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, Rookies and the McNamee Concrete Vintage Modifieds. Gate open at 5pm, racing gets underway promptly at 7pm.
