After capturing his first top five finish of the 2012 season last week at Cornwall Speedway, Joel Doiron was looking forward to getting back to the track this week, looking for another solid run, hoping to build some momentum going into the summer months.
The night started out well for Doiron, posting the fourth fastest speed in opening practice, and then finishing third in his qualifying heat after starting seventh. The team made a few adjustments to the car before the 30 lap main event, and Doiron lined up on the inside of row five in the ninth position. From the drop of the green flag, Doiron moved to sixth early, and settled into that position through halfway. After getting involved in a lap 17 incident, Doiron reported to the pits and after getting looked over by the team, he returned to the track. Doiron restarted the race from the rear, but quickly worked his way back into the top five. At the checkered flag, Doiron rebounded nicely with a fourth place finish.
“The car worked pretty good, it is just unfortunate that we got caught up in that incident earlier”, says Doiron. “We struggled a little the first couple weeks of the season, but we seem to be going in the right direction. We will continue to work hard, and hopefully we can get back to victory lane again real soon”.
This coming week, Doiron will be at Mohawk International Raceway in Hogansburg, New York on Thursday night for a 358 Modified Mr. DIRTcar Series event. On Sunday night, Doiron will be back at Cornwall Speedway as the DIRT Modifieds share the stage with the World of Outlaw Late Models, as they make their return.
“We plan to be at Mohawk Raceway on Thursday night with the intentions of qualifying for the tour race, but we will also have the car there as a backup for Mat Williamson, says Doiron. “It is a long haul for them up here from Merrittville area, and we are happy to have our car just in case they have a problem”.
