Green Flag To Drop At Laird Int’l Raceway On June 6

Green Flag To Drop At Laird Int’l Raceway On June 6

Laird Township, ON- Fans and drivers of the Laird International Raceway will see the green flag drop on the 2013 season in just over a weeks time, on Thursday, June 6th.

Qualifying is set for 6 p.m., kids bus rides at 7 p.m. and racing to follow at 7:15 p.m.

Along with a FULL SHOW of racing, the young fans will have the opportunity to get on the track in our first POWER WHEELS race of the year.  So mom and dad are encouraged to shine up, and charge the battery of their son or daughter’s power wheels and bring it to the track and let the lil’ racers take to the asphalt oval during intermission.

PLUS, there will also be a Kids Bike Giveaway.

For opening night LIR is offering a $25 “Family of Five” package for main grandstand admission while individual tickets will remain unchanged at $14 for Adults, $12 for Seniors, $6 for Youth (12-18) while Children 11 & Under are just $3.

The official start date is one week later than originally hoped, but with wet and colder conditions that have left the grounds inadequate, combined with the late spring that has driver’s now completing updates for their summer or racing, the decision was made by track management on the weekend.

“We know the anticipation is peaking, and we (management and staff) are equally excited, but our #1 goal is to ensure that the start is the right start.  We want to come out of the gates strong and that means conditions that are ideal for both competitors and fans” stated LIR Director of Race Day Operations Gerry Liscumb Jr.

The upcoming summer of events at the 1/3 mile d-shaped asphalt oval will mark the 15th Anniversary Season at the track.

Since opening back in May of 1999, LIR continues to provide the Twin Sault Area’s & Algoma District with fun, family entertainment with some of the brightest stars of short track racing.

2013 will continue to feature six divisions of cars with Super Late Models, Outlaw Modifieds, LIR Modifieds, Factory Stocks, Xtreme Four and Factory Four Divisions.

“I’m extremely pleased with the response we are having from veteran drivers, new competitors and returning faces that the fans will see at LIR this season.  It’s gearing up to be a very exciting and fun season at the track” continued Liscumb.

A number of Memorial and feature nights are in the works with details to be expected to be released in the coming days.

Laird International Raceway is conveniently located approximately 16 kilometres east of Sault Ste. Marie on Lake George Road in Laird Township.

About Wacky Wings
Wacky Wings Eatery & Beverage Co. was established in December of 2007 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Being from Northern Ontario, we wanted to ensure we gave our customers the “Northern Ontario” feel as they dined with us.

We covered all our walls in cedar logs, designed all our custom wooden tables, chairs and bar top and accented the room with full character logs. We use mostly Northern white cedar to achieve this beautiful cozy Northern Ontario look.

Our vision at Wacky Wings was to build the perfect relaxed atmosphere where you could enjoy a meal in a fun environment. We pride ourselves on having the friendliest, most caring staff around who will go above and beyond to ensure your dining experience with us is nothing short of a treat. We cater to families, large groups, sporting teams and sports enthusiasts alike.

When designing the Wacky Wings concept we knew we had to keep the wing fans in mind. We know there is no better combination for wing fans than ice-cold beer and great sporting action. We teamed up with Molson Canada who supplied us with their patented Sub-Zero draught pouring system, which allows us to serve your favorite Coors Light or Canadian draft at a frosty -2 degrees Celsius. We then added numerous big screen plasma TV’s on all the walls surrounding the premise. There is no better place to catch your favorite games then Wacky Wings Eatery.

We carry a full menu consisting of burgers, sandwiches, salads, appetizers, wraps, pizza and of course chicken wings. With over 100 flavors of chicken wings on our menu we had to be inventive which includes a combination of mouthwatering sticky, messy wet sauces and delicious dry seasoning flavours.

Ask your server about our Flavor of the Month wings to try something new!

Laird Int’l Raceway Cancelled For June 21st

Laird Int’l Raceway Cancelled For June 21st

The management of Laird International Raceway regret to inform fans, drivers and sponsors that the racing events for Thursday, June 21st have been cancelled due to inclement weather.

Due to the large volume of rain received over the last four days and additional precipitation this morning, the Laird Fairgrounds (home of LIR) have been saturated to the point that event parking, pedestrian walkways and some competitor areas are in an unsatisfactory condition at time of release.
As a result of those conditions and questionable weather today, track officials have been forced to postpone this week’s events.

“It’s a difficult decision, but after conducting a walk-thru of the facility, it would be unacceptable to ask our fans and driver’s to participate under these conditions. Usually warm weather will dry up all areas to satisfactory state but as of now they are not there” began Director of Race Day Operations Gerry Liscumb Jr.

“We can’t argue with Mother Nature and she has provided us some much needed precipitation, but rain and racing facilities just don’t mix”

As a result, LIR will now focus on putting it’s third week of competition in the books next Thursday, June 28th. A full show of all 6 of their weekly racing divisions will hit the track with Twisted Toyz Motorsports Super Late Models, Caswell Concrete Products Outlaw Modifieds, LIR Modifieds, Maitland Motors Factory Stocks, KM Construction Xtreme Fours and Leisure Living Factory Fours.

Time trials at 6 p.m. with racing to follow at 7 p.m.

Laird Int’l Raceway Adds To Fan Experience

Laird Int’l Raceway Adds To Fan Experience

From Laird Raceway – The 2012 race season is just one week in the books and the Laird International Raceway continues to add new elements for the enjoyment of it’s fans.

Last Thursday when the younger fans at LIR got ready to watch their heroes battle for the checkered flag on-track there was a new “friend” for them off the track. Track management was excited and proud to introduce “Lairdy the Lion” as the new mascot of LIR. Lairdy will be at the track every week throughout the upcoming summer to interact, play and greet our younger race fans along with taking part in various events involving the children.

And now as we prepare for our next race event – Thursday, June 14th – the new facility features continue. Grandstand admission fans will now notice a pair of timed specials for them to take advantage of.

A “Beat the Clock” general admission pricing will take effect starting this week. Any fan entering the main grandstand before 6 p.m. will save $1 off their general admission purchase.

Meanwhile a “Champ Special” has been introduced at the track’s concession stand.  Fans can choose between a hamburger or sausage and pair it with fries and a pop for just $4.99 between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Some great savings for our great fans.

LIR is committed to the enjoyment of it’s fans and are focused on building momentum as the summer continues to move on.

This is our latest way of saying thank-you for supporting the facility over the past 14 years.

We hope to see everyone’s backside, trackside once again this Thursday Night for another exciting week of Thursday Night Thunder featuring Twisted Toyz Motorsports Super Late Models, Caswell Concrete Products Outlaw Modifieds, LIR Modifieds, Maitland Motors Factory Stocks, KM Construction Xtreme Fours and Leisure Living Factory Fours.

Time trials are set for 6 p.m. with racing to follow at 7 p.m.
